A unique opportunity has arisen for an Accountant to support the development and implementation of the Council's Capital Ambition Delivery Programme, assisting the Portfolio Accountant in providing advice, guidance and support to some exciting internal and external programmes and projects.
In addition, the post holder will assist in providing support to the development of major capital projects across the City. This post will report to the Portfolio Accountant within the Project Accountancy Section.
The successful candidate will support in providing financial advice, analysis and modelling in respect of various projects across the Programme, supporting project managers and representing the s151 officer on multi-disciplinary project boards. This is an exciting area to broaden your skills by working across the council in working groups on areas as diverse as complex procurements and assisting with long term financial appraisals/ modelling. The successful candidate will be technically competent, be a qualified or part qualified accountant, have effective personal and team work skills whilst working in an environment of competing priorities where deadlines are still met.
Core accountancy skills will be fundamental to the role as you will be involved in delivering varied Financial and Management Accountancy tasks across the accountancy spectrum, but more importantly we are looking for someone who can be proactive, works well on their own initiative, is good at analysing and interpreting information, has a ‘can-do’ attitude to getting things done and is capable of functioning well within an accountancy team and multi-disciplinary team environment.
Ability to understand complex financial information and explain this to non-finance colleagues is key, so strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for the post. This is a diverse and varied role, so you will need to be a dynamic and driven individual who is looking to consolidate your recent accounting experience whilst learning on the job.
