The Story Arms Centre is Cardiff Council’s outdoor education centre based in the Brecon Beacons, mid-way between Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon.

*This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the rate of pay to £8.75 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.

Cardiff Council is the largest Local Authority in Wales responsible for delivering over 700 different services to our citizens, visitors, and businesses in Cardiff. Our Corporate Trainee Scheme offers a 6 month paid Trainee role, which is open to Cardiff residents, currently living or studying in Cardiff. As a Corporate Trainee, you will work within one of our service area teams to develop a variety of workplace skills, knowledge and experience in our large and varied organisation.

Our Domestic Team are offering the opportunity to join them as a Corporate Trainee based at The Storey Arms Centre.

In this role, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of workplace skills and experience in a residential outdoor education environment, as well developing knowledge and understanding of the work and responsibilities of working in Local Government in Cardiff.

Our Domestic Team provides high quality outdoor residential education for schools from across Cardiff, Cardiff Metropolitan University and international educational establishments.
 
The successful applicant will help assist our Domestic Team to deliver our service, and will develop catering and domestic skills at their time at the centre.

The successful applicant will also gain knowledge basic food hygiene, catering for differing dietary requirements, food preparation, serving meals and high standard kitchen hygiene.

As a Corporate Trainee, we will help and encourage you to develop skills that will support you with your future career. You will be encouraged to take on some administrative tasks such as recording temperatures and food safety monitoring. You will receive supervision, on the job training and support from a named mentor within the team, who will help you to develop. As a Trainee, you will be developing to provide efficient domestic support in a positive, customer focused manner.

By the end of the period of training, it is intended that the appointed trainee will have gained sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to be able to apply for other posts within the Council (or external to the Council) and you will be supported and encouraged to apply for vacancies across our organisation as you approach the end of the initial contract to help you progress to the next stage of your career.
