Accessibility help

Cardiff Council is working hard to make sure that every part of this internet site is as easy to use as possible for everyone. What follows are instructions on how to get the best from this site. If you have any ideas or suggestions to help improve the site then please get in touch using the feedback form.

Text Size

If you find the default text size on the site too small or too large, you can change it by clicking on the Text Size A A link in the top left hand corner of the site. You can also use your web browser's built-in text-size function. To resize the text using your browser:

  • In Windows Internet Explorer (including Pocket IE), use the View - Text Size menu.
  • In Firefox and other Mozilla browsers, use the View - Text Size menu;
  • In Safari, use the View - Make Text Bigger option;
  • In Opera, use the View - Style - User Mode;
  • In Macintosh Internet Explorer, and Netscape 6 and 7, use the View - Text Zoom menu;

If you use a wheel-mouse, you may be able to change the text size by holding down the Control or Command key and turning the wheel. In some browsers you can change the text size using Control or Command and the + and - keys. You can also specify the font styles, colours, and foreground and background colours. The way you do this varies from browser to browser.

  • In Windows Internet Explorer (including Pocket IE), use the Tools - Internet Options.
  • In Firefox and other Mozilla browsers, use the Tools - Options;
  • In Safari, use the View - Make Text Bigger option;
  • In Opera, use the View - Zoom menu;
  • In Macintosh Internet Explorer, and Netscape 6 and 7, use the View - Text Zoom menu;

Screen size

You can change the screen size, reducing the number of words per line, by grabbing the grey bar at the bottom right-hand side of the site.

Screen Readers

For security purposes, job descriptions, person specifications, application guidance and any other job specific information is presented on this website in .pdf format. Should you require a copy of such job documentation in word format to accommodate the requirements of your screen reading software, please e-mail our recruitment team at recruit@cardiff.gov.uk

Styles and colours

All layout and styling is controlled using Cascading Style Sheets. At present there is only one default style, or you can override the default style using your own stylesheets.

Internet Explorer users should click on tools, options and then the colours, fonts or accessibility buttons to adjust the content to suit their needs.

Links

Many links have title attributes which provide greater detail on what the link is, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article). Links are written to make sense out of context.

Images

All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes. Complex images include LONGDESC attributes or inline descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.

PDF files

Adobe® Acrobat® Reader is free software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Download Acrobat Reader. Adobe can also help you access content using assistive technologies such as screen readers or screen magnifiers. You can link to the Access Adobe website for information on making these documents accessible.

W3C Compliance

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) provides Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) for people who create and maintain websites.

These guidelines help organisations provide websites that are accessible to people with disabilities. The guidelines are split into 3 priority levels:

  • Priority 1
  • Priority 2
  • Priority 3

All pages on this site comply with Priority 1 and some pages comply with Priority 1 and 2.

Feedback

We are always working to improve this internet site and feedback from our users is important to us. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions after using the site then please use our feedback form.
